1. Remove The Reserved Bandwidth For System:

By default, the computer (both laptop and desktop) reserve up to 20% of the network bandwidth for QoS traffic, in order to expand the performance of applications based on ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), video conferencing and windows updates, etc. You can change this default setting with the help of these steps:

  • Press the “Windows” logo + R. It will open the small “Run” command window on left side bottom of the screen
  • In this RUN window, type gpedit.msc and click on OK. Here you will see the “local group policy” window.
  • On the left side column under computer configuration – Go to Administrative templates – on the right side double click on NetworkQoS Packet SchedulerLimit reservable bandwidth.
  • In this space select Enable and change the “bandwidth limits percentage” from Not Configured to 0 (zero) and click on “Apply”.

By default, the setting is “Not Configured” which means you will get about 80% of the bandwidth of your actual internet plan.

2. Turn Off the Automatic Updates:

While you are using your computer system and it is connected to the internet, there are certain applications that keep running in the background, even if you are using offline applications such as office suite. In order to avoid this issue, you should turn off the “Auto-update” option in all the applications and software. You can do this for your windows too, as window updates happen too often. 6. Contact Your Service Provider

Although, the above-mentioned steps are quite effective in optimizing the speed of your broadband connection. However, if you still don’t the right speed, it’s better to get in touch with your internet service provider. There could be some issues at ISP’s end.
